Originally I painted the face of Jesus in the clouds breathing life and renewal into His church, which I symbolized in the form of a traditional, steepled church building. Some people thought the face in the sky represented the north wind. A few years later I painted the dove over the face so that it was no longer visible. Eventually, I decided that there was a place for both, and I repainted the face of the Lord so that it partially obscured the dove.
Which did you see first? The dove, or the face of Jesus?
This is a detail from a larger work entitled, Breath of Renewal.
You can add a special extra touch to this painting by superimposing an appropriate Scripture text into the lower left of the image.

Most of my paintings are executed in oils, often over the top of other media. Many are visual stories that contain partially hidden words or imagery where the homespun and the familiar become symbols of timeless truth. My hope is that you will discover additional levels of meaning as you look at the paintings closely. I plan to write the words, 'What is He saying?' along the lower left of the 'Breath of Life' pouch, connect a neck band and wear it as a sign over my chest. Inside I will keep cards and booklets that I can give to enquirers and people I get into conversation with. How well will it work? I don't know, but its an idea that I have carried for a long time.
